trailer for the film THE DELANO MANONGS: FORGOTTEN HEREOS OF THE UFW
(fun fact: that’s nat king cole in the beginning singing “dahil sa iyo” - “because of you” - a timeless filipino kundiman, or love song)
the organizing and labor history of filipinos runs deep. we are not passive, we are not docile; like haiti, like viet nam - we overthrew imperialists barefoot - third world innovation against first world technology. filipinos all over - no matter in the homeland or caught somewhere in the diasporic winds - we are still resisting, still organizing, still gathering together with each other and others for ours and their basic rights. this, to me, is truly the spirit of my people: our collective nature, our inherent goodwill. it is often said by foreigners who visit the philippines how “nice” and “hospitable” filipinos are, but here’s a word to the wise: don’t mistake the smiles for naivete because my people know how to fight.
