though the lackluster state of hip hop can be attributed to more than just the internet, for myself, this is the most important question/idea this eulogy to the legendary record store(s) poses:
“WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE HONESTLY EXCITED FROM HIP HOP MUSIC?”
(caps, bold, italics added).
i’m excited for rock the bells this sunday, but none of what i’m looking forward to is new sht—it’s all old sht (snoop performing “doggystyle,” tribe performing “midnight marauders,” etc.) it’s crazy that i get more excited over DUBSTEP now than hip hop. who the ffffffff thought i’d be feelin DUBSTEP???? who the ffffff thought i’d even KNOW what dubstep is?????? times are def a-changing and change does not always mean good. …no hate to dubstep, though, and all hate—*sigh*…and love—to hip hop, still.
ps: on my first—and only—visit to fat beats la, i bought this (vinyl) and this (cd) and…don’t hate…this (vinyl).
